On the High Pressure Behaviour of Hydrogen and Helium
No. 62
Budapest, 1968
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to obtain an exact equation of state for hydrogen
and helium at T=0 K. For the derivation of the energy-molar volume function
a cellular method is applied using the boundary condition
(delta rho/delta r)_{r=rs}=0, where rho and rs are the electron density and
the radius of the elementar sphere, respectively. This condition may be
satisfied by (delta psi/delta r)_{r=rs}=0 or psi(rs)=0.
Both cases are examined. The modification of the Balmer series as a function
of density is derived, and a qualitative indication suggesting the
presence of a pressure ionization obtained, which may be of interest
for geophysics too.
