Getting to/from Budapest

Budapest has an international airport.

Getting to/from Konkoly Observatory

... from the airport?

By airport minibus, which takes the passengers at a fix rate to any point of the city. It's enough to tell the address or the name of the observatory at the airport minibus counter (LRI), located in the arrival's hall.

Public transport: bus 200E to M3 metro terminal Kőbánya-Kispest (normal public transport tickets) --> metro line M3 to Deák Ferenc tér (direction Újpest-központ) --> metro line M2 to Széll Kálmán tér (direction Déli pályaudvar) --> Bus 21 or 21A to Normafa (direction Normafa or Csillebérc/KFKI).

... from the train stations?

From the Western Railway Station (Nyugati pályaudvar): Tram 4 or 6 to Széll Kálmán tér --> Bus 21 or 21A to Normafa (direction Normafa or Csillebérc/KFKI); an alternative way: metro line M3 to Deák Ferenc tér (direction Kőbánya-Kispest) --> metro line M2 to Széll Kálmán tér (direction Déli pályaudvar) --> Bus 21 or 21A to Normafa (direction Normafa or Csillebérc/KFKI).

From the Eastern Railway Station (Keleti pályaudvar): Metro line M2 to Széll Kálmán tér (direction Déli pályaudvar) --> Bus 21 or 21A to Normafa (direction Normafa or Csillebérc/KFKI)

From the Southern Railway Station (Déli Pályaudvar): Bus 21 or 21A to Normafa (direction Normafa or Csillebérc/KFKI)

... from the international bus station?

International bus terminal (Népliget): metro line M3 to Deák Ferenc tér (direction Újpest-központ) --> metro line M2 to Széll Kálmán tér (direction Déli pályaudvar) --> Bus 21 or 21A to Normafa (direction Normafa or Csillebérc/KFKI).

Notes on buses 21 and 21A :

When you use public transport, sooner or later you'll end at Széll Kálmán tér or Déli pályaudvar, where you'll have to change to bus 21 or 21A. If you take bus 21, you should get off at the stop Csillagvizsgáló (stands for 'observatory' in Hungarian), which is the next stop after Normafa. Now you are at the gate of Konkoly Observatory (the board says: Magyar Tudományos Akadémia Konkoly Thege Miklós Csillagászati Kutatóintézete). If you arrived by bus 21A to Normafa, walk a few metres back and take the street downhill to the right. You should be at the observatory gate in a few minutes (on your right). If you happen to reach a narrow-gauge railway crossing you already went too far, it is time to turn back...Buses 21A and 21 start from the same stop both at Széll Kálmán tér and Déli pályaudvar. About every second bus is not 21 but 21A, with a follow-up time of ~10min during the day (for a more detailed timetable see the homepage of the Budapest Transport Company).
